Raised around Saint John, New Brunswick.
Was a member of the Kennebecasis Rowing Club.
In 1984 he won two gold medals in Montreal at the Canadian Rowing Championships.
His brothers, Harry and Brian, were also famous rowers.
Raced in the four-man boat at Regatta 125 against the British crew in 1996.
