LONDON, Ont. - Yesterday was a dark day here at the Canada Games as organizers caught their collective breath during the transition from Week 1 to Week 2 events.

New Brunswick captured eight medals during the first seven days of this fortnight, including gold from Rothesay rowers Mike Owens (men's single sculls) and Katie Reynolds (women's single sculls).

The rowing team of Andrew Munro of Quispamsis and Drew Simson of Rothesay garnered the silver in men's coxless pairs.

On a light Saturday, Rothesay's Jordan Crawford was the only local athlete in action. He finished 25th with a time of 2:03.39.90 in cross-country cycling.

The slate of sports in Week 2 includes track and field, baseball, canoeing, diving, rugby, men's soccer, tennis, volleyball, and beach volleyball.

New Brunswick has strong medal hopes in baseball, one of the glamour events of any Canada Summer Games. The provincial entry opens its schedule today versus Prince Edward Island.

The beach volleyball teams take to the sand today as well. The women's entry consists of Kim Flewelling of Saint John and Sophie Melanson of Grand Barachois. They play Manitoba in their first match.
