KV Rowing Club Tops at N.S. Meet

DARTMOUTH, N.S. - Kennebecasis Rowing Club won nine of 19 events to capture the overall title at the Dartmouth Sprints Rowing championships on the weekend.

Rick Cassidy, fresh from winning the intermediate lightweight single race at the Philadelphia Independence Day Regatta a week ago, took the men's singles and teamed with John Oxley to capture the men's doubles event.

Wayne McFarlane was also a big winner as half of the men's pairs winners with Chris Flood and as a member of the foursomes that won the junior men's straight four and junior men’s cox four. Others on the straight four team were Tim Oland, Dave McKenna and Rob Lutes. Joining MacFarlane on the cox four squad were Flood, Tom Russell and Pete Oxley.

Kennebecasis was successful in the junior and senior men’s eight-two and the mixed eight-dash sprint, a race of 500 metres, instead of the 1,000 metres of the other races. Not to be outdone by the boys, Elizabeth and Carla Vandenberg put the Kennebecasis girls on the map with a victory in the women’s pairs.

Teams from Fredericton, Halifax and a pair of teams from Dartmouth also took part.
