Kennebecasis Club Wins N.S. Sprints

HALIFAX - The Kennebecasis Rowing Club of Renforth became the first club outside of Canada's Ocean Playground on Sunday to win the Nova Scotia Sprints.

Kennebecasis crews won seven of 13 events, racking up 70 points to out-distance the Halifax North Star club by 17. Halifax Mic Mac Club had 46 points and the Fredericton Rowing Club garnered 17.

Brian and Steven Flood of the Kennebecasis Club placed first in men's pairs, beating out clubmates John Allan and Rick Cassidy.

In straight fours competition, the Floods, Allan and Cassidy placed first in the lightweight division while in eights competition, the Floods, Allen, Cassidy, Rob Aske, Jeff and Richard Kilpatrick, Andrew Tremblay and cox Chris Flood placed first. The same eights crew won in open competition.

The Kennebecasis women's crew won its eights race while North Star won men's open singles and coxed fours, Mic Mac won the women's pairs and Fredericton won the women's four's.

The Kennebecasis Club will be the host on Saturday at the annual Renforth Regatta while the Fredericton club stages its annual invitational regatta on Sunday.

Upcoming major events include the Canadian championships July 31-Aug. 2 and the Canadian Henley at St. Catharines, Ont. Aug. 6-9.
