County rowers triumph

The Kennebecasis Rowing Club was the overall winner Saturday in the fourth annual Renforth Regatta, competing against the Fredericton Rowing Club and partial teams from the Mic Mac and North Star Rowing Clubs from Dartmouth.

Dr. C. H. Bonnycastle said the water was good for the event, with a bit of a headwind slowing the rowers down in their events,

Among trophy races, the Ontario Cup for the men's open 8 was captured by Kennebecasis Rowing Club in a time of 3.58 for the 2,000 meters, while in the men's straight four, the host club captured the James Renforth Cup.

Another of the historic trophies for the Renforth Regatta, the McLellan Trophy, was presented to the North Star Club from Dartmouth which captured the youth men's four with cox 500 meter dash, defeating the much younger and lesser experienced Kennebecasis and Fredericton crews.

Dr. Bonnycastle said the club was well satisfied with the event, despite the fact the two Dartmouth clubs did not have full crews, and he paid tribute to the ladies who operated a refreshment booth and the Renforth Boat Club which made its facilities available to the competitors.

Following the event, the crews moved on to Fredricton to participate in another regatta there sponsored by the Fredericton Rowing Club.

All four clubs are preparing for the Canadian Rowing Championships which are to be held on the Olympic Basin in Montreal Aug. 1 and 2, and for the Canadian Henley in St. Catherines, Ont. later in August.

All races except the dashes were run over 1,000 meters.
