Junior Rowers Qualify

ST. CATHERINE'S, Ont. - Kennebecasis Rowing Club's 155 pound junior men's four rowing team placed second in the opening heat and qualified for the finals here at the Royal Canadian Henley International Rowing Championships, Thursday.

The squad, which consists of brothers Henry and Brian Flood, Rick Cassidy and John Allan, finished 6.30 seconds behind Florida who had a time of 7:24.0.

A junior women's four with cox team from Fredericton Rowing Club was eliminated from further competition when they placed fourth in their heat behind Dartmouth, Syracuse and West Side Buffalo. Members of the team are Cathy Peckham, Karen Fraser, Lachelle Brewer, Mary-Kay Stangroom and Lynda MacDonald.

The only other New Brunswicker involved in the event which has athletes from Canada, United States, Mexico and Australia participating, is Andrew Boyles of Kennebecasis Rowing Club who finished fourth in the junior men's 135 pound singles final.

The fifteen-year-old youth is the youngest competitor at the championships and has succeeded farther than any other athlete for his age ever at this event.

Boyles placed behind Durham, Mass., London, Ont., and Lake Washington while defeating New York and Calgary, Alta.
