The British Are Here -- Here!

The four member British crew who will be participating in the 2,000 - meter re-enactment of the famous "Paris- Renforth" race Saturday morning are not taking the contest lightly, says Robert Hutchinson of the Renforth Regatta publicity committee.

For the past three weeks, the crew from the Tyne have been training vigorously under a British olympic coach.

The quartet arrived by air Monday night and yesterday were driven through Saint John in a motorcade. Last night they were guests of Exhibition Park where they viewed the Renforth pace.

The "Paris-Renforth" race will begin Saturday at 9 a.m. although official ceremonies will start at 8:15. This will include flag-raising and speeches from various dignitaries. Those interested are urged to make an early start Saturday morning in order to avoid traffic tie-ups.

Several other events are planned for the four before the big race. Tonight, they're expected to be aboard Renforth float in the Loyalist Days parade, slated to begin at 7 p.m., and tomorrow night, they will attend a wine and cheese party at the Renforth Clubhouse - marking the opening of the regatta.

The British crew will be pitted against two crews from the North Star Rowing Club in Dartmouth, N.S. As well as the main race, "single races" will see oarsmen competing against each other in small shells.

The 65-foot orange four-man shells are expected to arrive tomorrow, in ample time to allow a practise run to be made on the Kennebecasis River.
