Flood Rows To Gold

MONTREAL -- Brian Flood of Saint John picked up two gold medals at the Canadian Rowing Championships which concluded here at the Olympic Basin on Sunday.

Flood, a member of the Kennebecasis Rowing Club team which made the trek to Montreal, scored a major victory when he captured the F. I. F. E. Open Lightweight Singles Championship on Sunday. His other gold came Saturday in the 160-pound senior lightweight singles final.

Flood was not the only member of the Kennebecasis club to pocket medals. On Sunday, Chris Flood and Wayne MacFarlane picked up a silver medal in the youth men’s pair while the men's youth with cox also nabbed a silver.

The youth men's doubles tandem of John and Peter Oxley finished fifth in their final.

On Saturday, the club picked up three other medals in addition to Flood's gold. Rick Cassidy took home a silver in the 145-pound Senior Single Sculls event and the youth men's eight team also grabbed a silver medal. The youth straight fours team managed a bronze in their final.

The team now moves on to the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta in St. Catharines, Ont., beginning this Wednesday and running until Sunday.
