Reynolds earns seven gold medals at rowing event

FREDERICTON - Saint John's Katie Reynolds won seven gold medals and Laura Penny nabbed six to lead the Kennebecasis Rowing Club to the Atlantic Crew Classic overall championship in Fredericton on Saturday.

The Kennebecasis club won 18 of 24 events for first place as rowers from five clubs across New Brunswick and Nova Scotia competed.

Reynolds won the junior women's singles and paired with Penny to win the pairs and doubles events while Reynolds and Penny joined Meghan Hartlen and Elaine Davies in the junior women's straight four and quad championship boats.

Reynolds, Penny, Hartlen and Davies teamed with, Sarah Ougler, Erin Palmer, Heather McInnes, Rebecca Smith and April Nason (coxswain) to finish first in the junior women's coxed eight while the mixed eight was won by the crew of Reynolds, Penny, Wayne MacFarlane, Scan Moore, Ryan Kilfoil, Brendan Kilfoil, Staccy Norwood, Tracey Fraser and April Nason (coxswain).

Other events won by the local club included: junior men's singles - Ian Edwards; open men's straight four - Edwards, Andrew Munro, Mike Owen and Tristan Camus; open women's singles - Norwood; junior men's double - Owens and Edwards; open men's quad - Macfarlane, R. Kilfoil, B. Kilfoil and Sean Moore; open women's pair - Fraser and Norwood; junior men's pair - Munro and Owens; master men's quad - Henry Flood, Brian Flood, Ken Irving and Gordon Chutter; open men's double - Macfarlane and Moore; junior men's straight four - Munro, Edwards, Camus and Owens; master men's double - Brian and Henry Flood.
