Belyea Will Row In First Heat

Philadelphia, Aug. 2.-Hilton A. Belyea, the St. John sculler, who holds the Canadian championship, has been a busy person since his arrival here Monday night. Belyea, who is entered in associations singles, to be rowed on Friday as part of the golden jubilee national regatta, rowed at 11 o’clock daylight time the Philladelphia Barge Club, and outlined, at least, two trips over the Schuylkill course Tuesday. Belyea is the first of the Canadian oarsmen to arrive here. The St. John sculler has been drawn in the first heat of Association singles against McGuire of Buffalo, Heller and Lecount, of New York, Muckler, of St. Louis, and Shea, of Boston. This heat will be rowed at 11 o’clock daylight time.

The post entry of Johnny Durnan, of Toronto, who finished third in the Canadian Henley, lost Saturday, has been received and he has been placed in the second heat of Association singles against Codman and Faulkner of Boston, Scharfe of Baltimore, and Gilmore, Blessing and Fitzpatrick, of Philadelphia. Two men qualify in each heat and the winner of the final is eligible to row against Walter M. Hoover, holder of the diamond sculls and national title, Costello of Philadelphia, and Zoha, of New York. The championship singles will be rowed on Saturday. There are 13 entries.
