Hilton Belyea Is Confident

Expects to Retain His Title of Champion

(Special to Globe)

Port Dalhousie, Ont., July 29- The weather at nine o’clock this morning was fine and clear, with a faint breeze blowing up the race course. The prospects are that the ideal racing conditions of Friday will be duplicated.

Hilton Belyea was up early, after a good night’s rest, and is fit for the big struggle this afternoon involving the senior sculls Canadian championship.

"I never felt better in my life and believe that I am ten seconds faster than when I rowed here last year," is Hilton’s statement regards his condition.

The champion spent a quiet day on Friday, when he went to St. Catharines in the morning he had his plans laid for the preliminary race in the afternoon and did not learn of the change made by the committee until the dinner hour.

He would have preferred to have a preliminary heat instead of the present arrangement which places six men in the sudden death struggle of today. However, he accepted conditions without protest.

At four o’clock in the afternoon he contented himself with half hour spin over the course and some starting practice. In the evening he watched his great rival, Dibble, taking a practice spin, and also E. McGuire, Mutual R.C., and retired about ten o’clock.
