The Kennebecasis Rowing and Canoe Club was formed in 1971 following the Renforth Centennial Regatta. The purpose was, and is, to return to the greater Saint John area some of the glory which embellished the City and its surrounding areas for three quarters of a century.

Rowing, as a competitive sport, is growing fast in Canada. The Federal Department of Youth has set up an administrative office in the Department of Physical Fitness and Amateur Sport in Ottawa to help develop the sport of Rowing.

The object of the Kennebecasis Club, which has its base in Kennebecasis Bay at Renforth, is partly to provide the opportunity to young people to row, and partly to provide and opportunity for local citizens to be part of, and take pride in the achievement of local oarsmen as their forefathers did in the past. It is also the intention to afford an opportunity for the youth of the area to participate in strenuous physical exercise both through rowing and through canoeing.

The members of the Kennebecasis Rowing and Canoe Club hope that the citizens of the greater Saint John area will regard the Club as their club and will promote it, support it and enjoy it, either through active participation or through other forms of support.
